the chain abstraction thesis has seen validation in that the *quantity* of chains has continued to rise without much end in sight but as zon correctly identifies, most of these chains don't actually produce anything of value, leaving users split between the same few apps on the same few chains as interop and chain abstraction proliferates, alongside the drive for actual value creation in this space, the appchain thesis will prove itself it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem: you need adoption of chain abstraction to make appchains viable, but you need appchains to be used to get the full value out of chain abstraction, but I believe both of these things will grow in parallel will take a few years and some mindset shifts in the industry but it will happen, 100%.
with so many chains having launched in the past 6 months and with many still yet to launch, it seems clear that we'll have infinite chains. every one of these chains will use their token to incentive YOU (the builder) to generate value for THEM (the chain) but as chains -> infinity, chain tokens tend to die faster. it gets increasingly harder to believe the next sparkly chain with the same morpho, aave, pendle deployment is going to be the one that sticks. certain chains with very unique value props (exchange related, not designed to be a gen purp chain, lindy, etc.) will be able to stand above the crowd but it'll only get tougher instead, YOU (the builder) should opt to generate value for YOU instead the best way to do that is by owning your stack and building an appchain while enabling users to deposit from trending pockets of liquidity
